OUR SCHOOL HAS
RECIEVED NOTICE THAT
WE WILL RECIEVE
A BELLSOUTH GRANT
FOR 2005-2006.
This grant will be used to purchase
resource kits about
the United States and Louisiana.

Homer Elementary benefited from a
book drive entitled “BUY A BOOK, BUILD A CHILD” with
$4500.00 in donations.
Our school also received $1500.00
from two grants (Bellsouth and 75th Anniversary Stipend
for Delta Kappa Gamma International).

A special thanks is given to Betty Smith and Rachel Ware. These ladies were a tremendous help to me as library volunteers last school year.

Announcements

Our library is a work in progress with lots of empty shelves. We will be appreciative of any donations for books.

Greetings from Maggie Harris, library teacher

Our Accelerated Reader program is underway. Grade levels 1-5 are very actively involved. Hopefully, next semester, kindergarten students will be involved too. Students are trying to earn stickers, bookmarks, and special reading pencils by reading and testing on AR books. They are also trying to earn “Readers are Leaders” dog tags and medals by reaching their point goals. Also, classes are involved with the “Book It Club incentive program sponsored by Pizza Hut.

Our library shelves are filling up with library books, teacher resources and movies that can be checked out by classroom teachers. Building a “working” library requires a lot of work. In time, we are hoping to have all our shelves filled with valuable resources for our Homer Elementary family.

Thanks to each and every individual that has supported our “library in progress”.
