Measuring Madness |
For the month of February, fourth graders will be learning to measure in “two languages”. One is the Customary Measuring System ( the way the United States Measures) and the other is the Metric Measuring System (the way most of the world measures).
Fourth graders need to develop a mental picture and an understanding of each of the following measuring units.
Length: · Inches · Feet · Yard · Miles |

Customary Units |
1. Have your child weight items in the fruit section of the grocery store or at home. 2. Look on food containers for the Customary and Metric measurements. 3. Check the temperature each day. 4. Measure items and convert to feet, yards, or meters. 5. Practice measuring with cups, pints, quarts, milliliters, liters. 6. Go over their homework. |
Capacity or Liquid: · Fluid ounces · Cups · Pints · Quarts · Gallons |
Weight or Mass: · Ounces · Pounds · Tons |

As you can see, this is very challenging . Here are some ways you can help: |
